Sweet ending to food festival

• DIPPY: Judge Natasha Brown, also produced her own dinosaur themed creation that was on display during the festival.

Three local bakers are celebrating after winning prizes in this month’s Rochdale Food & Drink Festival cake competition.

Festival organisers staged the annual competition, this time encouraging people to come up with a ‘natural history adventure’ themed cake, inspired by the Rochdale visit of the world famous Dippy the Dinosaur from February to June next year.

There were two categories: adults and under 13’s, judged on taste, presentation and creativity by festival chef Andrew Nutter and local cake guru Natasha Brown.

Jenna Clarke, 14, from Norden was awarded first prize - a gourmet dinner for two at Nutters Restaurant. Runner-up was Lesley Anderson from Rochdale, who won afternoon tea for two at Brown’s Cakes. Winner of the under-13’s category was 11-year-old Tilly Richmond from Heywood who collected a voucher for afternoon tea at Nutters Restaurant with her family, plus a signed cookery book from the man himself.

Judge Natasha Brown, who also produced her own dinosaur themed creation said: “We had a lot of fun trying the cakes and the winners came up with some imaginative and tasty creations, well done everyone!”

The festival was organised by the council in partnership with Premier Kia.

Rochdale Food & Drink Festival will return to the town hall on Saturday 4 April 2020.
