Rochdale welcomes 2018 with fireworks and music

Live on stage – The Surburban Swing Orchestra played before midnight.

The arrival of the New Year was celebrated in Rochdale on Sunday with two dazzling fireworks displays, live music and a party atmosphere enjoyed by thousands in the town centre.

Hundreds packed The Esplanade by Rochdale Town Hall during the afternoon enjoying children’s rides, music, circus performances and games hosted by Revolution 96.2, before over a crowd of 2,000 watched a family friendly firework display.

Then from 10pm revellers braved the rain to enjoy sets from Revolution 96.2 and ex Hacienda DJ Elliot Eastwick and a live performance of big band and swing classics from The Surburban Swing Orchestra before over 3,000 people watched a second dazzling display as Rochdale Town Hall clock chimed midnight.

Mark Foxley, Chair of Rochdale Town Centre Management said:

“Both firework displays were superb and despite the weather we saw many thousands of people in our town centre enjoying the entertainment on another memorable evening.”

The event was funded by Rochdale Borough Council, organised by Rochdale Town Centre Management with support from The Flying Horse Hotel.
