Rochdale gets ready for big race

RUN ROCHDALE: Over 1,300 runners are expected to take part on Sunday

With just days to go before this year’s Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run, online entry has now closed for the event on Sunday (6 October).

However, if you missed the deadline, you can still enter in person at Number One Riverside in Rochdale town centre on Saturday 5 October (10.30am – 3pm) or on the morning of the event at the town hall from 8am until 9.30am if there are any places remaining.

Entries the day before or on the day will be charged at £35 for the half marathon (£33 for club runners) and £25 for the 10K (£23 for club runners)

The one-mile fun run is also available for day before or on the day entry at £7.

Once again the race announcer will be festival, Revolution 96.2, club and Rochdale AFC DJ Dave Sweetmore. Dave will be warming up the runners and spectators around the town hall with music as well as providing regular race updates throughout the day.

The Rock School Band will be performing in Broadfield Park bandstand from 10am - 1.30pm as the runners complete the last stretch of their race. Councillor Janet Emsley cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture at Rochdale Borough Council said she is expecting a record number of runners this year:

“We’ve 1,200 runners already registered so we are looking forward to another excellent event. I wish good luck to everyone running one of our races on Sunday. I am looking forward to welcoming runners of all abilities to Rochdale.”

John Connor, head of business at Williams Rochdale BMW, said: “We’ve had a great response so far and we’re really looking forward to the event which has something for all the family. Once again, we wish all the best to everyone taking part in and supporting this prestigious, national event, raising much-needed funds for very deserving charitable causes.”

Half marathon and 10K runners will receive a technical t-shirt, together with a new for 2019 black nickel medal on completion. Fun runners will also receive a black nickel medal.
