Revealing the Roch – a celebration, Saturday 25 June 2016, Time: 11 AM - 4:30 PM

Join us in Rochdale Town Centre for a celebration event to mark the re-opening of the River Roch and its historic bridge in Rochdale town centre.

This FREE event will showcase Rochdale’s artistic tradition, its great heritage and its exciting future, with a full programme of performances by local groups including Skylight Circus, Can’t Dance Can, the Rochdale Rock Choir and Touchstones Creative writing Group.

The nearest available parking will be at the town hall car park. Due​ to limited road closures, access to the car park will be via Fleece Street and cars can exit using​ Nelson Street. Nearby parking is also available at The Exchange Shopping Centre, The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, along with Council owned at Milton Street West and Penn Street. ​​​Daytime activities

For children

There’ll be plenty to keep the young ones entertained, from trying their hand at Victorian games and dressing up, ​​meeting the Rochdale Goblin, with story teller Professor Jigget, before trying out the traditional helter skelter and carousel rides. They can also find out more about what lurks beneath the surface of the river, with our Nature Ed wildlife and orienteering workshop. 

Food and drink​

Refuel at the town hall’s newly revamped Clocktower Restaurant, which will be serving afternoon tea and some hot specials from 11am to 4pm.​ Food and drink stalls will also be selling treats, including a specials from the Flying Horse and Spanish dishes by La Mancha.

For the history buffs

Explore the fascinating history of Rochdale town centre, including its historic bridge, on one of our walks led by a blue badge guide. The walks depart from the Touchstones tent on the Esplanade every hour, on the hour, starting at 1pm, with the last walk setting off at 4pm.

You can also enjoy an Arts Trail through the Town Centre along with town hall tours, which will set off from its reception at 12.30, 1.30 and 2.30pm. 

Evening entertainment

The fun continues into the evening with poetry reading in the Baum pub at 7.30pm, followed by a river inspired ghost walk led by local actor Colin Meredith, which will set off from outside the Baum at 8.30pm. The Flying Horse will also be running a medieval banquet on Saturday evening, book early!
