Recipe for success as new artisan market comes to Rochdale town centre

An artisan market, showcasing some of the best food and drink producers in the North West, is set to bring a taste of something different to Rochdale town centre.

The offer, brought by the well-established, Market Company, will feature food and drink stalls, including street food, handmade goods and arts and crafts, as well as live music.

The market will take place at the outdoor market site on the Butts, next to the indoor market and foodhall, on the last Saturday of every month, with the first one set to take place on 30 March.

The Market Company will bring a selection of traders, but is also looking for local producers to get involved and sell at the market.

Denise Valente, from the Market company, said: “We’ve been running artisan markets in a variety of locations across the North West for a number of years, including Prestbury, Northwich, Wilmslow and Urmston, and they’ve always been popular, so we’re looking forward to bringing our successful model to Rochdale.

“Launching just in time for spring, visitors will be in for a treat, with award winning food and drink producers from across the North West bringing the best regional produce to the market’s Riverside location.

“Our markets have a real community feel, so we would love to hear businesses from across the borough of Rochdale. We are particularly interested in hearing from food and drink traders and arts and craft producers.”

Councillor John Blundell, cabinet member for regeneration at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “This will be a fantastic addition to our town centre. The popularity of our other similar events, such as Street Eat and Rochdale Food and Drink festival, shows that there’s a real appetite for high quality, locally produced goods, so I’m sure this will go down really well with our residents.

“Our fantastic indoor traders, including Montagues Café, Rochdale’s Choice Family Butchers, the greengrocers and Jordan’s Eggs will also be selling on the day, so the artisan market promises to be a great regular addition to Rochdale’s packed events calendar.”

The artisan market will take place on the last Saturday of every month from 10am to 4pm, starting on Saturday 30 March.
