Leader of the Council shows full support and confidence for the Great British High street nomination

Leader of Rochdale Council Richard Farnell has expressed his full support and confidence for the Town Centre Great British High Street nomination.

The much-regenerated town centre, which has been completely transformed over the past five years and is set to change further with the addition of a new retail and leisure development, is vying for the coveted Rising Star crown in the annual initiative.

Cllr Farnell said: “The number of excellent projects and innovative schemes we’re developed for the town centre gives me confidence we can do well at the national awards. Revealing the Roch, the Gracie Fields statue and plaque unveilings and the stunning Rochdale in Bloom are just three examples of events we’ve organised which I feel sure will impress the judges. But it’s not only these events; a number of other initiatives we’ve introduced, I’m sure, will also impress. The free town centre parking and the business rates scheme we’ve successfully introduced are just a couple that are also having a positive effect on our town’s trade and appearance.”

Rochdale residents are being urged to show their support as the Town Centre bids for the prestigious national award by using social media to demonstrate its backing for Rochdale's entry, simply show your support by using the hashtags #GBHighSt and #Rochdale.
