Daredevils wanted!

Places are expected to be in high demand to abseil down the popular landmark again on 20 August

The annual charity abseil down Rochdale Town Hall is once again looking for brave souls with a head for heights and a zest for a little adventure.  You’ll get a bird’s eye view of Rochdale and raise cash for a good cause this August – when the famous town hall clock tower stages the popular event as part of Rochdale Feel Good Festival.

Participants will climb to the top of the iconic 190-ft stone tower before descending by rope.

The event on Saturday 20 August, has been organised by the charity Number One Riverside – Giving Back. The charity was established in 2013 by council staff committed to raising money for local causes.

Every penny raised will go to charity - some to support young carers in the borough and the rest put towards ‘Our Big Day’ an event for cared for children and their foster families in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton.

Trustee of Number One Riverside – Giving Back, and organiser of the hair-raising spectacle Helen Leach said:

“Despite having had a difficult start in life, the cared for children in the borough are achieving fantastic things and we want to give them all a day to remember. The money raised by the abseil this year will go towards making sure they all have an amazing day and to support our magnificent young carers. I’m pleased that we’re able to do it again and hope to be able to raise another significant amount for a very good cause. As always places are limited, so please get in touch now to book your abseil.”

In the last few years the event as become equally popular with spectators, with hundreds coming out to support the brave descenders.

To secure a place on the abseil which runs from 8am until 3.30pm on Saturday 20 August email abseil@rochdale.gov.uk There is a registration fee of £20 per person which will go direct to the charities. You also need to commit to raising at least £50 in sponsorship. Information and sponsor forms will be provided.
