The Rochdale Feel Good Festival

Event Date 10/07/2009

As you will no doubt be aware by now, the Rochdale Feel Good Festival is returning this year and its going to be even bigger and better than ever! Rochdale town centre will come alive with sights and sounds for two days in July.  Rochdale Town Centre Management’s main aim is to help and support the local businesses, and therefore we are very excited that Rochdale Township have decided to put so much behind this fantastic event, which will without doubt bring increased footfall, interest and trade to the town centre.

On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 July the two day celebration of entertainment and culture is set to feature a high profile line up. Celebrity chefs Aldo Zilli and Aazam Ahmad will be providing live interactive chef demonstrations in the grand theatre tent which will be situated on the Butts. This will be accompanied by a vast food market, which will include many local traders.

The festival will also include live music across 8 venues in the town centre plus an outdoor stage near the Town Hall. Saturday, 11th July is the music day, kicking off at noon & ending sometime around 4am with a storming set by Manchester's very own uber-DJs, Unabombers. The Bluetones headline the mainstage stage in the Town Hall Square and will be serving up musical treats from a greatest hits set including Slight Return, Cut Some Rug, Marblehead Johnson & Bluetonic etc. The four venues along Packer Street will be providing the alcohol for the outdoor stage, which will bring a much needed boost to the evening economy. Also on the main stage will be Bristol's folk rockers, Babel, art rock disco and NME favourites, Liverpool's Wave Machines and Manchester's very own Glastonbury's new talent award winners, The Travelling Band. XFM/ Inspiral Carpets’ Clint Boon will be compering .
Over the eight venues in the town, the events will feature nearly thirty acts creating a diversity from several walks of the musical stratosphere, including folk, dance, non- classical, electronica, indie guitar & blues. The extra footfall for this event will no doubt help the town centre businesses and will also hopefully leave a legacy.

For the event to be successful it will be necessary to put road closures in place. South Parade will be closed from 12pm on Thursday 9th July until Sunday morning, and Packer Street will be closed from 3pm until 10pm on Saturday 11th. The Town Hall Square Car Park will be closed on Saturday, but alternative parking will be made available in the Bus Station Car Park across the road until 10.30pm.

Debbie O’Brien, Rochdale Town Centre Manager, said “This is a fantastic event for Rochdale town centre, and just what we need to boost the economy and cheer us all up! Its really important that we all get behind the event and show everyone what Rochdale can achieve.”
