The Rochdale Feel Good Festival will return this summer - bigger and better than ever. The celebration of entertainment, food and culture, now in its third year, will include events in both Middleton and Heywood in early August, prior to the free main attractions in Rochdale town centre on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 August.
The festival will include live music across a number of indoor venues and a big main stage against the backdrop of Rochdale Town Hall. Celebrity chefs will be hosting live cooking demonstrations throughout the event which will also include a two day quality Food Market.
Penny Sharp, Head of Regeneration at Rochdale Borough Council said the festival will provide something for everyone: “This year’s Feel Good Festival will be bigger and better than ever providing a feast of music, food and entertainment for everyone in the borough to enjoy. I’m sure the festival will provide residents with a whole series of un-missable events and activities in August and help to once again show visitors from other parts of the North West a great time too.”
Chart toppers The Lightning Seeds will headline the main stage. Best known for classic hits such as ‘Pure’, ‘The Life of Riley’, ‘You showed me’, ‘Lucky you’, ‘Sugar coated iceberg’, ‘Perfect’ and ‘Three Lions,’ they’ll appear on the Main Stage on Saturday 14 August. Funk hip-hop pioneers The Herbaliser and rapidly rising pop singer Kirsty Almeida will be joining them on this bill.
The Travelling Band - one of the most popular bands from last years event will return to play the main stage plus a special warm up show on the Friday evening. Led by gifted song-writing, impeccable playing and harmonies, their blend of cosmic-country-pop, folk, and bar band rock has made them one of the most talked about artists to emerge from the Manchester music scene. The 6-piece group have built a strong following in their home city and across the UK.
They’ll be joined by Ellen and the Escapades, winners of the 2010 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, who’ll be playing the main stage at Glastonbury this month before making their Rochdale debut. Their first EP is set for release this summer and their distinctive alt-folk sound is already attracting the attention of national radio. This year is looking like the best yet for the Leeds based group, who draw influences from acts such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Ryan Adams and Ray LaMontagne.
Organisers have also announced TV chef Gino D'Acampo who will be cooking in the Love Food Hate Waste marquee on Saturday 14th August, plus enigmatic BBC Fusion Chef Aazam Ahmad will make his 3rd return to the Festival on both days. Rochdale’s very own Andrew Nutter will also be cooking on Friday and Saturday.
After receiving over 30 entries to the Battle of the Bands, Festival organisers have whittled down the talent to 3 'finalists' who competed in a live competition on Saturday 10th July. The winner, Dead Kestrels will open the main stage against the backdrop of Rochdale Town Hall on the Saturday evening of the Festival, whilst runners up Red or Black and The Mysterons will get to play in one of the town’s indoor venues.
