Winners to tie the knot at Rochdale Town Hall

The winning couple in a competition to win a free dream wedding were presented with their prize at Rochdale Town Hall by Councillor Janet Emsley, Assistant Cabinet Member for Community, Culture and Tourism at Rochdale Borough Council on Thursday 9 October.

Georgina Gray and David Turner entered a ‘Win Your Wedding’ competition as part of Rochdale Wedding Show, organised by the Council.

Couples were asked to send photos of themselves near the town hall and the winner was chosen from a final three. The public listened to local radio station Revolution 96.2 and had the final say on the winning pair and, much to their delight, Georgina and David received the most votes.

Councillor Emsley said: “I’m thrilled for Georgina and David as this fantastic prize will give them a great start to married life. We look forward to welcoming them to the town hall on their big day and I wish them every happiness for years to come.”

The lucky couple will tie the knot in the historic surroundings of Rochdale Town Hall, a Grade One Victorian Gothic masterpiece, which is renowned worldwide for its unique architecture and is already a popular wedding venue.

The prize also included wedding rings from Platt’s Jewellers, a night away for the bride and groom at Norton Grange Hotel, photography by Summer Johnstone Photography, 50 per cent off a wedding dress at D’ver Bridal Boutique, hire of groom’s suit from Denis Hope Menswear, wedding car by Classic Mustang Hire, Richard Porter to DJ at reception, hair and make-up by Jan at Aspect, diamante hair piece by Vintage Bowtique, bride’s bouquet by Flowers by Harris and wedding cake by Brown’s Cakes.

Bride-to-be Georgina said: “I still can’t believe we’ve won! We never win anything and to win a prize like this is just incredible. I’m really looking forward to planning my wedding at Rochdale Town Hall, it’s a spectacular venue and we just need to set the date now.”

The magnificent splendour of the historic town hall offers a range of rooms to accommodate any party size and with the surrounding ornate gardens, there is no shortage of internal or external photo opportunities.
