Street theatre and circus skills at the Rochdale Feel Good Festival

Posted on 12/08/2010

The Feel Good Festival is back this weekend to entertain residents of Rochdale and visitors alike with an impressive array of celebrity chefs, established bands and artists. In addition to this, there will also be some fantastic street entertainment from performers from the Borough and further afield.

Local company Skylight Circus Arts will be wowing the crowds with their amazing circus skills on South Parade (which is closed for the duration of the festival) on Friday and Saturday. There will be unicyclists, stilt balloonists, magicians, dancers and aerial acts to entertain and delight, as well as workshops where the public can get involved and learn a few things themselves!

On Saturday, Artizani present a solo show, Syrovy, inspired by the comic routines of Buster Keaton, Harpo Marx, Gene Kelly and Neil Armstrong which is both spectacular and meticulously detailed and they’ll also be bringing some amazing giant stilted cricketers. Plus Madame Mango and Emily Rose will perform aerial acts on both days of the festival.

On Saturday at 12pm and 2pm dancers from the Tracey Ray School of Dance, based at Hollingworth Lake will perform 2 amazing shows on the stage in front of John Peers Hair Studio.

Two Dhol Players dressed in traditional costume will be performing 6 sessions over the 2 days, adding to the carnival atmosphere of the Feel Good Festival. The dhol is a drum widely used in the Indian subcontinent, especially the Punjab region.

And for something a little different, The Regal Moon are bringing down 2 beautiful shire horses to The Butts on Friday lunchtime to launch their Ale and Cider festival.
