This Easter if you bring the kids down to Rochdale town centre you’re guaranteed to have some fun. Unfortunately the weather forecast for the weekend isn’t great, however there’s no excuse for staying at home, as these Easter activities are all taking place under the covers of the two shopping centres. The events have been organised by Rochdale Town Centre Management, with funding from Rochdale Borough Council.
On Good Friday in the Rochdale Exchange, an interactive cartoon wall will be coming for the day! Children will be able to boldly follow an irresistible urge to create their own amazing artwork onto a huge canvas using brightly coloured paint pens, supervised and inspired by artist Scott Walker. Children of all ages and abilities will be able to contribute to this fantastic piece, and the pens are water-based, odourless and non-toxic so they’re very safe. The results will be a kaleidoscopic artwork. This canvas will then be displayed during the Rochdale Feel Good Festival on 13th and 14th August, so you can come and visit your child’s handiwork as well as taking in all the entertainment that’s happening on that weekend.
Also in the Exchange on Friday will be Pearl & Deanie, the big, the bold, the beehived usherettes extraordinaire, wielding wit, warmth and torch lights. These lovable ladies search out the hidden talent in us all. Can you pout like Marilyn Monroe? Lipcurl like Elvis? Or sing like S Club 7? Now is your opportunity to ‘reach for the stars’ with Pearl & Deanie and win your very own chocolate Easter egg. Both of these acts will be there between 11am and 3pm.
Then on Easter Monday, prepare for the natural creativity of your children to be brought out in the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre. At the ‘Makendoo’ workshops, children could make anything from masks, hats and small banners creating a colourful carnival atmosphere. Whether it be Easter chicks, bunny rabbits, flowers or Easter bonnets, your little one will take their very own piece of Spring artwork home with them. Again this will take place between 11am and 3pm.
Penny Sharp, Head of Regeneration for Rochdale Borough Council said “In Rochdale you’ll find a diverse range of shops, fantastic service and great value right on your doorstep. The Easter weekend is a chance to visit, have a great day out and explore the town centre. We’ve lots going on and everyone’s welcome to come along and take part.”
