‘Feel good funk’ - The Bright Black return to Rochdale festival

FEEL LIKE DANCING: Expect high energy, expect funk, expect your legs to grow a mind of their own when The Bright Black go on stage at Rochdale Feel Good Festival

Middleton-based band ‘The Bright Black’ will play the main stage again at this year’s Rochdale Feel Good Festival.

After wowing the crowds with their blistering funk and soul show in 2016, the band will return on Saturday 12 August.

Recognised as one of the region’s best new unsigned bands, performing sell-out gigs since launching their debut EP in 2015, this month they release new single ‘Strike a Pose’ accompanied by live dates in London, Leeds and Sheffield.

The Bright Black, played by BBC Introducing, take influences from classic funk and soul artists while maintaining a high-energy sound symptomatic of their Mancunian roots. Their blend of upbeat feel good sounds with soulful lyrics was emphasised in their debut EP ‘Up Not Down’ recorded at 80 Hertz Studios, produced by George Atkins who has worked with Lily Allen and The Courteeners. Their capacity to get audiences dancing has resulted in them gaining a core following of dedicated fans.

Lead singer Travis Hamilton Yates said: "We’re super amped to play again this year and get everyone dancing their heels off!  This festival never fails to be a fantastic experience and we can't wait to add a little glam-soul, post-funk to the bill.”

The Bright Black will be joined by previously announced band The Karpets, fronted by Tom Hingley, former lead singer of the Inspiral Carpets

Rochdale Feel Good Festival returns on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 August, for another showcase of entertainment, food and culture.

The festival which is celebrating its 10th birthday will include live music across indoor venues, a main stage against the backdrop of the town hall, a quality food court and family entertainment.

The festival is funded by the council together with sponsorship from local businesses and more acts will be announced this month.

Once again a local band will get chance to play the main stage. The Battle of the Bands competition will be launched this month with local acts encouraged to apply to win the coveted slot.
