World Cup Events As we move into summer, there’s a lot going on in Rochdale town centre to keep you entertained. Of course we’re all well aware that the World Cup is on its way and there are plenty of events across the town including match screenings, competitions, and give-aways.
On Saturday 19th June, from 10am until 2pm, 2010 Cup Fever hosted by Link4Life, will be giving children and adults the chance to show off their own soccer skills. This event will be on The Butts in Rochdale town centre and will include activities such as Human Foosball and Giant Penalty Shoot Out with great prizes up for grabs. There will also be a Soccer Skills coach helping you with Keepie Uppies.
The Wheatsheaf Centre will be running table football throughout the World Cup, with a trophy and £100 to spend in the shopping centre up for grabs for the winner. There’ll also be goodies available, including goodies for the non-footballing types… teaming up with Ladies Only Ltd, there’ll be 250 stressballs given away. There’ll also be a raffle for £100 to spend in the Wheatsheaf Centre. And if that’s not enough, some Wheatsheaf shops will also have buckets of free World Cup lollies for customers to enjoy.
The Litten Tree will be showing matches on their multiple 50” screens so customers will never miss any of the action. The Litten Tree will also create a great atmosphere with staff and customers in fancy dress and great deals on food and drink.
And if you’re looking for a corporate hospitality World Cup event, Mango have the backing of Carlsberg, the Official Sponsor of the England team, and will be hosting Hospitality Events for all the England games. Their exclusive VIP Hospitality arrangements include…
• Live screening of World Cup matches on the large Plasma TV's

Of course, not everyone will be interested in the football this summer, and that’s why 2 of our town centre businesses have decided to something a little different.
25 Ten Boutique, on Cheetham Street, will be running ‘Give Football the Red Card!’ – a campaign that will include in-store promotions and the opportunity to enter into a free prize draw to win a gift voucher of £100. Beer-fuelled, World Cup football-viewing may be most men's idea of heaven, but for many women, the onset of a major tournament is more closely linked with Hell. Their favourite TV programmes get shunted around the schedules to make way for key games, as football takes on an omnipresent aura. Women are largely forgotten at this time. 25 Ten Boutique, on Cheetham Street, are targeting football widows this summer with a themed campaign entitled “Give Football the Red Card!.”
The campaign, which runs from June until August, encourages all world cup widows to escape from the world cup and enjoy their very own "extra time" retail therapy with exclusive in-store and on-line promotions, together with the opportunity to enter a fabulous free prize draw – details of which can be found at the end of this column. “Give Football the Red Card has specifically been designed to appeal to women and offers a unique point of difference at a time when many World Cup promotional campaigns will be focused solely towards men," says owner Kelly Turner-Mitchell.
Ladies Only Ltd will be running a World Cup promotion with the No. 7 Counter at Boots. The first 7 customers at the counter during each World Cup match will be given a Ladies Only Ltd ball and entered into a prize draw. The winner will be drawn at the end of the tournament and will win one years free gym membership at Ladies Only Ltd.
