Kym Marsh met the crowds in Rochdale on Saturday during a guest appearance in the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre as part of the run up to this summers Feel Good Festival.
The popular actress and singer dropped into the Wheatsheaf Library for a special question and answer session with thirty children from Matthew Moss High School and Redwood School. The children had been invited to meet Kym as a ‘thank you’ for providing their ideas on how libraries could be improved. They got the chance to quiz their television favourite about her character on Coronation Street, her upcoming wedding, gruelling filming schedule and life as a pop star.
She then officially launched the library’s new DVD loan service. Over 100 DVDs are now available to borrow from the library, from a range including film blockbusters such as ‘Avatar’, popular children’s entertainment and self-help titles. Now members of the library can borrow DVDs as well as books, CDs and use the internet. Kym, who confessed to being an avid film watcher herself, cut the ribbon to open the collection before taking time to chat to fans and sign autographs.
Next she appeared on stage at the ‘Feel Good Fashion Show’ also taking place in the shopping centre. After greeting an appreciative crowd of hundreds she presented a cheque to MedEquip4Kids, after the shopping centre raised over £1600 for the charity by undertaking a sponsored hike.
She posed for photographs, chatted to fans and signed autographs during the event.
Rochdale’s fashion stores showed their sparkling summer and autumn ranges in front of an enthusiastic audience. Models from town centre fashion retailers posed on the catwalk during the lively show, wearing eye catching numbers from 25 Ten Boutique, New Look, Solo, Chantilly, Denis Hope and Peacocks. Staff from TG Hughes demonstrated the latest make-ups ranges.
Kym originally shot to fame in the pop group ‘Hear’Say’ and earlier this year reached the semi finals of reality show ‘Popstar to Operastar.’ But she’s now best known to millions of soap fans as Michelle Connor in ITV1’s ‘Coronation Street’. A multi-award winner, Kym Marsh’s other accolades include ‘Best TV Soap Personality’,’Best Dressed Soap Star’, ‘Favourite Actress and ‘Celebrity Mum of the Year.’
