Falinge Park pupils ready for big festival debut

Posted on 15/07/2010

Music students from Falinge Park High School are busy preparing for their debut at the Rochdale Feel Good Festival next month.

A group of nine pupils will be performing a collection of songs, with an afternoon show at Touchstones Arts and Heritage Centre, The Esplanade, Rochdale on Saturday 14 August between 12pm – 3pm.

The musicians are members of the schools lunchtime and after school song writing class, and have composed their own songs for the festival with help from their Music Workshop Leader Michael Dalby, Mr Decourcey, Head of Creative and Expressive Arts, and Ms Emma Williams, Head of Music.

The school was recently re-accredited for its Performing Arts College Specialist Status, and they jumped at the chance of appearing at the Feel Good Festival. Mr Dalby said everyone is excited about the performance:

“The students have been working hard for several months on their own songs and arrangements of current songs. They are all keen music fans and are hoping lots of people come to support them. We are proud of their work and it promises to be a fantastic show!”

The students have learnt about all aspects of making music, including the practical theory, reading music, singing and playing instruments. They will be performing an eclectic mix of music, from pop and indie, through to soft rock.

They’ll be followed by singing sensation Catherine Tyldesley, whose magical voice has captivated audiences across the country. She’ll be performing songs from the classics songbook. She’s also an accomplished actress and has just been announced as a new face in ‘Emmerdale’. The 26 year old will join the ITV1 soap next month. The rapidly rising star will also soon be on our screens in ‘Shameless.’

The afternoon of music starts at 12pm on Saturday 14 August at Touchstones. Entry is free, and no booking is required.

The Feel Good Festival takes place in Rochdale town centre on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 August. It will be headlined by The Lightning Seeds, with other acts including Kirsty Almedia, The Herbaliser, Ellen and the Escapades and The Travelling Band. The festival will include live music across seven indoor venues, an outdoor stage and a 2 day quality food market. Celebrity chefs Gino D’Acampo, Andrew Nutter and Aazam Ahmad will appear in the festivals celebrity kitchen, sponsored by Love Food Hate Waste.
