Musicians face festival battle

Posted on 27/05/2010

The closing date has passed for local musicians wanting a chance of appearing at this years Feel Good Festival. Over the last three weeks the search has been on for local bands, groups or solo artists, by festival organisers who are looking for five local acts.

Over 30 entries are now being considered before a shortlist is announced in June. Then 8 ‘finalists’ will be invited to face the judges and a public audience at the ‘Feel Good - Battle of the Bands’ competition to be held at a venue in Rochdale town centre on Saturday 10 July.

The winner will be selected to open the main stage against the backdrop of Rochdale Town Hall on the Saturday evening of the Festival, whilst four runners up will get to play in one of the town’s indoor venues.

Debbie O’Brien, Event Manager said: “In the past couple of weeks we’ve had lots of interest in the Feel Good Battle of the Bands competition. There’s going to be a fabulous line up of entertainment at this year’s festival and our aim is to add some of our hottest local talent. For the first time one lucky band will get to open the main stage on the Saturday evening, supporting the headline act in front of a crowd of thousands. This is a brilliant chance for our local musicians.”

The Rochdale Feel Good Festival now in its third year, will include warm up events in Middleton and Heywood, prior to the free main attractions in Rochdale town centre on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 August. Funk hip-hop pioneers ‘The Herbaliser’ and rapidly rising pop singer Kirsty Almeida have already been announced, with other acts to be confirmed in the next few days.

In addition to a full programme of live music the free festival will include a food tent and 2 day market. Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo will be one of three top chefs set to appear in the festivals celebrity kitchen, sponsored by Love Food Hate Waste.
